Lawyers Sue to Stop GOP Convention

Several attorneys in Jacksonville, Florida, have filed a lawsuit trying to block the city from hosting the Republican National Convention during the pandemic. In the complaint, they claim the event would be dangerous to residents’ health and welfare. Florida is now the nation’s biggest coronavirus hot spot, with nearly 225,000 reported cases. The convention is set to take place there at the end of August, and though the details are still a bit murky, the main event would be President Trump’s speech accepting the GOP nomination — delivered in a 15,000-seat arena. Meanwhile, Houston’s mayor has nixed his state’s in-person GOP convention, citing coronavirus concerns.
